"My goal for the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) was to develop a real scene here. I started with Ten Texans and from that group I focused on individual artists, like Luis Jimenez, Mel Casas, and James Surls. The latter was one of the first solo exhibitions that I organized. I responded to his work because he had taken on minimalism and really pushed his visual ideas into new territory."
