This
website was developed through a partnership between the Blaffer
Gallery and the University of Houston's College of Education. Joy
Zhou, a graduate student in the University's Instructional
Technology Program was lead web developer for the site, and worked
under the direction of Dr. Bernard Robin, Associate Professor in the
UH Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Katherine Veneman,
Blaffer's Curator of Education, and Susan Conaway, Curatorial
Assistant for the Blaffer Gallery, provided invaluable assistance in
the design and creation of the site, as did Blaffer intern, Gina
Marie De Leon, an Architecture student at the University of Houston.
Special thanks to Amy Bradford, Peter Zweig, and James Surls for
their help in narrating several of the video segments located in
the high-bandwidth
section of the site.
The collaborative team would also like to acknowledge the role of
Terrie Sultan, Director of the Blaffer Gallery, whose vision and
leadership not only allowed this website to come to fruition, but
also helped create the art and technology partnership that is now
involved in its third major web-development project.
James Surls: The Splendora Years, 1977-1997 was
made possible in part by generous support from an anonymous donor,
the Eleanor and Frank Freed Foundation, Marilyn Oshman, and Carey C.
Shuart.
Funding was also provided by Nancy C. Allen, Tim and Nancy Hanley,
Ann and James Harithas, Claudia and David Hatcher, Molly Hipp and
Ford Hubbard III, Sharon and Gus Kopriva, Nancy and Rob Martin,
Karen and Eric Pulaski, Shirley and Don Rose, and Texas State Bank.
The digital stories on this site, Terrie Sultan on the Works of
James Surls, Impressions of James Surls in Splendora, and
Splendora: A Love Story by Eleanor Hartney were excerpted
